HONOLULU (AP) — A Maui resort complex is receiving more than $200,000 for saving energy at its property.
The conservation and energy efficiency program Hawaii Energy presented the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas a check for the money on Thursday.
The resort slashed its energy consumption one-third by replacing incandescent lamps with energy-efficient light emitting diodes and installing a control system for garage ventilation exhaust fans.
Hawaii Energy says the resort’s investment of about $385,000 paid for itself less than six months.
Hawaii’s electric utility customers pay for the Hawaii Energy program. Science Applications International Corp. administers the program under a contract from the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.
