Oahu rail route archaeological surveys this week
HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu says contractors will perform archaeological studies this week near Pearl Harbor, the airport, and Kakaako.
The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is warning motorists the surveys will require lane closures, buts only during non-peak traffic hours. The work begins Sunday and ends Saturday.
The city is surveying areas to identify potential archaeological, historical and cultural resources along the route planned for Honolulu’s commuter rail line. The surveys will help rail project staff design an elevated rail guideway.
Lanes will be closed along Kamehameha Highway between Salt Lake Boulevard and Aolele Street. In Kakaako, they will be closed on Queen/Waimanu Street between Kamakee Street and Pensacola Street and on Kona Street between Kamakee Street and Piikoi Street.
