Two University of Hawaii at Hilo students embark next month on a 107-day educational visit to 16 cities in 14 countries throughout the Atlantic region, courtesy of the Semester at Sea (SAS) program.
Janelle Andres and Jean Ouye, both graduates of Christian Liberty Academy in Keaau, begin their journey when they depart Halifax, Nova Scotia on Aug. 23. They each received a Semester at Sea scholarship in the amount of $13,437.
Andres, a junior English major, aspires to be an elementary school teacher. She plans to create an interactive video of her study abroad experience to share with students at her alma mater.
Ouye is a senior majoring in psychology who hopes to be a psychologist. She looks forward to interacting with the various cultures to gain an understanding of the differences and similarities of people, and will use her experience to help future study abroad students.
The SAS scholarships are made possible by UH-Hilo’s partnership with the Institute for Shipboard Education. To learn more about global education opportunities, contact Carolina Lam at 933-8810 or visit hilo.hawaii.edu/studyabroad.
