Multicultural food, carnival game booths, keiki activities, entertainment, a country store and silent auction will be part of the fun at the annual St. Michael the Archangel Feast Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Hale Halawai.
Admission is free. Proceeds from food sales and keiki activities will benefit the Parish Building Fund to build a new church campus. Built in 1850, St. Michael the Archangel Church was damaged beyond repair during the October 2006 earthquake and subsequently decommissioned and demolished in November of 2009. The Kailua congregation continues to worship in a tent and has not yet realized its building fund goals.
Festivities for the Feast Day Celebration begin at the 10 a.m. Mass on the grounds of Hale Halawai’s north lot, with a special liturgy in honor of St. Michael, the parish’s patron saint. The Mass will showcase the congregation’s rich ethnic heritage when members of various cultures participate in the Presentation of Gifts in traditional dress.
A live and silent auction touting merchandise will benefit the building fund. Those wishing to donate are invited to contact Thelma Bacxa at 322-9032 or feastday@onecatholicohana.org.
