Two Big Island canoe clubs will send representatives to compete in the world sprints of outrigger canoe paddling, Aug. 11-15 in Calgary, Alberta.
Twenty paddlers from Keauhou Canoe Club and 33 paddlers from Kamehameha Canoe Club will be part of the 300-plus delegation from Hawaii to make the trip to Canada.
World Sprints are held every two years. Hilo hosted the event, spearheaded by the late John Kekua, in 2004;
Countries entering this year include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, California, Canada, East Coast USA, England, Fiji, France, Germany, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Pacific North West, Rapa Nui, Switzerland and Tahiti.
