The Hawaii County Council last week gave the go-ahead for a new lease with a veterans group.
The Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Inc. is seeking to provide housing and other services for veterans in Hilo on about 7.5 acres of state land overseen by the county.
The council last Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution directing Finance Director Nancy Crawford to negotiate a new five-year lease.
The group’s lease of the land on Kawili Street expired in 2010.
