A total of 40 teams are headed to Kona to fish the 53rd annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament starting today.
According to an HIBT spokesperson, “the field of anglers is looking very International” with multiple teams from the United States, Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. Teams from Singapore, South Africa and Vanuatu will also be heading out to the starting line. Portugal and Russia are new HIBT teams and will be welcomed at the starting line up as well.
The HIBT runs today through Friday, starting each morning from Kailua Pier and the boats fishing off the West Hawaii coast.
