Savor summer at Kokua Kailua Sunday, Aug. 26
On Sunday, Aug. 26, stroll through the heart of historic Kailua Village when the downtown stretch of Alii Drive is turned into a wide, inviting footpath for shopping and dining and mingling during the monthly Kokua Kailua.
“Savor all the sights, sounds and flavors of summer as Alii Drive becomes a pedestrian-only walkway from 1 until 6 p.m. during Kokua Kailua. The festive marketplace atmosphere is complemented by Historic Kailua Village’s many unique shops and restaurants,” said a spokesman for the volunteer coordinating committee.
“For families and friends, visitors and kamaaina, this free event is designed to rally support for merchants and restaurants and remind everyone to shop, dine and buy local.”
Free entertainment on the lawn at Hulihee Palace begins at 4 p.m.
The next Kokua Kailua is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, and will celebrate the kickoff of Kau Kau Kailua Restaurant Week.
Kokua Kailua Village Stroll is sponsored by the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Destination Kona Coast, Kailua Village Merchants Association, Hulihee Palace, West Hawaii Today and Pacific Radio Group.
