Gertrude Bolton, 102, of Glenwood died July 11 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Corder, Mo., she retired as a Lutheran elementary school teacher in Long Beach, Calif. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hilo, a member of the Volcano Senior Center, and a tutor with the Laubach Literacy Council in East Hawaii. Friends may call 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the Christ Lutheran Church, 595 Kapiolani St., Hilo; Celebration of Life at 12:15 p.m. Aloha attire; no flowers. Survived by daughters, Louise (John) Robertson of Glenwood, Janet Winkler of Texas; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Emiko Shigaki Sato, 91, of Kailua-Kona, formerly of Honolulu, died Aug. 3 at the Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Hilo, she was a retired bundler and seamstress for Sun Fashions of Hawaii and a member of Kona Hongwanji Mission. Private services. Survived by daughter, Susan (Vernon) Wong of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Helen Maruyama of Honolulu, Grace Sato of Arizona; two grandsons, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jay Slivkoff, 70, of Volcano, died Aug. 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Diego, he was an observatory technician at the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Department of Astronomy and Physics.
