Penn, MacDonald to fight Dec. 8 on FOX

Tribune-Herald

Hilo’s BJ Penn will fight Rory MacDonald on the UFC on FOX 5 event scheduled for Dec. 8 at a location still to be announced.

Penn, who will turn 34 on Dec. 13, came out of retirement to face the 23-year-old Canadian phenom.

Penn (16-8-2), the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, was to have fought MacDonald (13-1) in UFC 152 on Sept. 22 in Toronto, but the bout was postponed after MacDonald suffered a cut in training.

The free-TV card will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between reigning champion Benson Henderson against top contender Nate Diaz. The co-main event will feature rising Swedish light heavyweight star Alexander Gustafsson against former UFC champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
