Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin invites the community to a special Athletic and Wellness Clinic on Sept. 22 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Sangha Hall at 424 Kilauea Ave. in downtown Hilo.

The clinic will be geared for folks of all ages, from keiki to kupuna.

Activities will run the gamut from free health screenings to a demonstration by the fit and fabulous Pacific Roller Girls of island roller derby fame.

Flu shots will be available, with the cost dependent upon the recipient’s medical insurance coverage.

Games and activities for kids will include relays and strength conditioning techniques. Attendees are invited to try their hand at hula, yoga and Zumba classes. And there will be martial arts and gymnastic demonstrations.

Exhibitors providing services free to the public will include balance screening by the Department of Health Fall Prevention Consortium, massage demonstrations by Dream Machine, handwashing techniques by Germ City, glaucoma and retinopathy screenings by Hawaii Cataract and Laser Institute, lipid testing by Hilo Medical Center Diabetes Section, blood pressure screening, bone density screening and BMI/body fat analysis by KTA Pharmacies and University of Hawaii College of Pharmacy students, diabetes-HgA1C screening by the University of Hawaii at Manoa Diabetes Detection and Prevention Department, and medication reviews by the UH College of Pharmacy ALOHA Project.

Volunteers at various booths will offer important information to benefit the public: Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, Big Island Nutrition Council, cholesterol screening vouchers from Clinical Laboratories, CPR/AED, Hawaii County Office of Aging Better Choices; better health, heart attack, stroke and trauma information by Hilo Medical Center, and back health information by Nagareda Chiropractic.
