Chalmers Larsen Akima, 48, of Las Vegas and Waimea died July 22 at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena Campus in Las Vegas. Born in Honolulu, he worked for by the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, KTA Super Stores, Com Systems, California Hotel and Casino, and the Clark County tax office and was a member of the Las Vegas Lions Club, Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club and numerous Hawaiian civic clubs on the mainland. Visitation 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Imiola Congregational Church, Waimea. Service at 1 p.m. Inurnment to follow in the church cemetery. Survived by parents, William Louis Akima and Lorna Marlene Kaiuwailani Akima of Waimea; sister, Willette Kalaokahaku Akima of Waimea; brother, William Louis Akima Jr. of Waimea; hanai sister, Jolynn Dean of Waimea; sister-in-law, Fujiko Ululani Akima of Waimea; brother-in-law, Gerard Guerrero of Waimea; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Norman “Norms” Kauhane Macomber Jr., 34, of Hilo died Aug. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a warehouseman for HPM Building Supply and vice president of Aupuni ‘O Hawaii. Howard G. Medeiros, 58, of Hilo died July 31 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a volunteer service coordinator for the county prosecutor’s office and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Urn committal service to follow at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Teruo Morigaki, 91, of Papaikou died Aug. 15 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired Hawaii County police inspector. Visitation 3-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at Papaikou Hongwaji. Joseph “Uncle Joe” “Mikey” Perreira, 83, of Hilo died Aug. 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired state parks caretaker.
