Ka ‘Ohana O Honu‘apo invites everyone to enjoy Science Sunday at Honu‘apo Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the park in Ka‘u.
Representatives of the event’s special guest host, the Hawaii Wildlife Fund, will join Ka ‘Ohana volunteers in demonstrating how scientists collect information about local Hawaiian animals and plants down at the shoreline.
“Local resource managers will also answer questions about what, where, and why they collect data, and what they do with all the information they accumulate about Honu‘apo’s greatest resources — the land and the ocean,” said spokeswoman Lehua Lopez-Mau.
“Poster displays, fish survey techniques, questions-and-answers about ocean debris — such as: Will Japanese tsunami opala impact our Ka‘u coastline? — sea turtle research and conservation information, hands-on activities for children, and local marine volunteer opportunities — including beach cleanups and anchialine pool restoration — are all on the agenda for this fascinating day,” said Lopez-Mau.
Refreshments will be available for sale. For more information, visit www.honuapopark.org.
