James Richard Mason, 59, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 18 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Great Lakes, Ill., he was a self employed property manager, a former member of the Kai O Pua Canoe Club and an avid surfer. Private services to be held. Survived by mother, Janice Bovard of Holualoa; father, James (Gloria) Clendenon of Florida; sister, Sherri Wood-Ferren of Keauhou; two half-sisters and a half-brother; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruby Pua Keana‘aina McDonald, 70, of Kohanaiki died Aug. 5. Born in Kailua-Kona, she worked for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as a Cultural and Community Outreach Specialist, was a long-time member of the Kona Hawaiian Civic Club and sat on the Board of Advisory at Pohakuloa. Celebration of life from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept 1 at the Keauhou Beach Resort. Survived by sons, Darrell “Bull” McDonald Jr., and Sterry “Dula” (Rochelle) McDonald, both of Kohanaiki; daughters, Timi McDonald of Kohanaiki, Jaelyn Kaleilani McDonald of Puna, Darah Alana (Russell) Acantilado of Honokaa; brothers, William (Hazel) Keana‘aina of Maynardville, Tenn.; Stacey (Ann) Keana‘aina of Germany; Marcel (Deborah) Keana‘aina of Captain Cook; sisters, Pearl (Firpo) Debina, and Jewel (Ron) Carvalho, both of Kailua-Kona; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
