Hirono endorsed by Lingle’s GOP primary opponent
HONOLULU (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono is getting a surprise endorsement in her Senate campaign against former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle: Lingle’s opponent in the Republican primary.
Honolulu attorney John Carroll gave Hirono a kiss on the cheek and an endorsement in the general election on Friday, after losing soundly to Lingle in the Republican primary earlier this month.
Carroll says voting for Lingle is “worse than poor, it’s just dangerous.” Carroll says he has no idea how she will vote on any major issues.
But the Republican who received just under 6 percent of the vote in his primary says he would have been better than Lingle, Hirono and Hirono’s primary opponent Ed Case.
Hirono says the nod is another example of her ability to work with anyone.
