Power was interrupted for 5,734 Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday in the Waimea, Kawaihae, Kona and Waikoloa areas due to Hamakua Energy Partners tripping offline, HELCO reported.

Power was interrupted for 5,734 Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday in the Waimea, Kawaihae, Kona and Waikoloa areas due to Hamakua Energy Partners tripping offline, HELCO reported.

“HELCO worked quickly to bring additional generation online and power was restored to all customers by 6:38 p.m.,” the company said in a release issued Tuesday evening.

“HELCO regrets and apologizes for any inconvenience that our customers experienced during this outage. HELCO sincerely thanks customers for their cooperation and understanding.”
