Ten Big Island teams are being sought to play against the 2013 University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s softball team as part of the 50 innings of slowpitch softball vs. the Vulcans on Saturday, Oct. 6. The fundraiser for the UHH squad will include 9 against 9 at the UHH Softball Field, running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The teams will play five innings against the Vulcans with entry fees going to help the UHH team host a February tournament in Kona. Entry fee is $150 per team. At the end of the “Play the Vulcans” fundraiser, the team with the highest run differential will win tickets to a tripleheader on Feb. 23.
The teams will play five innings or 50 minutes and innings 1-4 will have a five-run limit; inning 5 will be unlimited. A pitching machine will be supplied by the Vulcans for the daylong event.
“It’s a great opportunity to get to know the 2013 Vulcans and help support the program,” UHH coach Jaime Wallin said. “We are seeking men’s, women’s or coed teams to participate in the softball event. Players need to be 18 & over to play. It should be a lot of fun and proceeds will help the UHH softball program. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.”
