Big Island Homeschool Potluck slated

The Big Island Homeschoolers group announces its second Big Island Homeschool Potluck is set for Sept. 8 at the Pana‘ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens Pavilion. The gathering will run from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. with the potluck lunch starting at noon.

Plans are for the fun get-together to be held twice each year.

“The very first one we put together was held this past November, and despite the stormy skies and heavy rains, a significant amount of families showed up for a day of fun,” said spokeswoman Sally Jackson. “We hope this next one will be even better.

“Many families on our island are looking for ways to connect with other homeschool families. It is integral to our children’s experience that homeschool families feel support and encouragment in their educational choices,” said Jackson. “There’s no better way to do this than by joining together to meet one another, share ideas, share curriculum and materials, inspire one another and share what works for each family.

“We hope all homeschool families will come, despite our differing homeschool philosophies. It’s the support that matters,” she said. “Those who come will meet with other families in our area, help build a community of families to support, inspire and encourage one another in our homeschooling journey, meet new friends and allow opportunities for our keiki to connect, and come ask questions and learn more about the variety of education options in our area.

“Please bring a pupu to share — for those who wish to munch — and whatever else you’ll need for a fun afternoon at the zoo,” Jackson said. For more information, please call her at 982-9605.
