“How did I get here?” “Why am I here?” “Where do I go when I die?”

“How did I get here?” “Why am I here?” “Where do I go when I die?”

These are three serious questions all human beings ask themself at one time or another. Find the answers to these basic life questions, and many more, at the Alpha Course, a low-key, friendly, and fun 10-week series beginning Thursday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m.

New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship once again sponsors the non-denominational course, currently available in 163 countries and taken by more than 13 million people. The series opens with a meet-and-greet dinner, a short film presentation, as well as a question-and-answer period.

Alpha is for everyone — those interested in the Christian faith, as well as those wanting to grow in their faith. Alpha is a safe environment to ask any question, and to find the truth. “Who is Jesus?” “Why did He die?” “How do I pray?” “How can I resist evil?” “Does God heal today?” “Why do bad things happen to good people?”

John Stark facilitates the Alpha Course. When asked why he is so enthusiastic about Alpha, he said, “I believe Alpha is one of God’s tools for these hard times. It is intended, through love, to model the Christian lifestyle by creating an environment where the Holy Spirit can work. It is laid back and there is no pressure. Each session starts with a simple meal, followed by a DVD of basic Christian ideas. And it ends each night with small groups gathering to discuss the topic.

“I have witnessed lives change and people accept Christ with no pressure. I look forward to the fourth time of offering Alpha to our island communities.”

The Alpha Course is free. Pre-registration is appreciated. Registration forms are available at the New Hope Waimea Church Office located at 65-1078 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea, at Sunday morning services, or by contacting Stark at 885-4317. Further information can be found at www.alphausa.org.
