Eastern Ky. Elk tours set for fall, winter

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Two state parks in eastern Kentucky are offering several fall and winter dates for viewing the area’s elk herds.

Jenny Wiley and Buckhorn Lake State Resort Parks are offering overnight stays at state park lodges and tours to view the elk.

State park officials say the largest herds are located on privately owned lands that are normally closed to the public. They say the tours are one of the few opportunities available to the public to view large gatherings of elk.

Each park is offering several dates for tours in September through March.

Elk, after being gone from the state for 150 years, were returned in 1997. They now number around 10,000.
