A judge has sentenced a 38-year-old Hilo man described by prosecutors as a “career criminal” to 10 years in prison for drug and firearms offenses and breaking into a car.
Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura handed down the sentence on Aug. 27 to Jason K. Moke for methamphetamine possession, drug paraphernalia, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a prohibited firearm, and unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle.
On Aug. 12, 2011, police found Moke asleep in a car after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Kaiwiki Road just north of Hilo. Officers found a glass pipe in plain view in the car. It tested positive for a small amount of meth. They also discovered a .22-caliber rifle with a sawed-off barrel and a clip with four bullets in the car. At the time, Moke was on probation for unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and drug paraphernalia.
Moke pleaded guilty on July 11 and agreed to revocation of his probation on the previous charges. Nakamura ordered that Moke’s sentence on the new charges run consecutively to the time remaining on his revoked probation, citing his extensive criminal history and that he was caught with drugs and firearms.
A check of court records indicates 25 criminal convictions for Moke.
