Hawaiian commissioner Lei Kihoi to speak Sunday

Lei Kihoi, Big Island commissioner for the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission, will speak from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the meeting of the Kawaihae Local Resource Council. Kihoi will speak about Kana‘iolowalu, a project of the commission.

The meeting will be at the Hamakua Mac Nut Visitors Center in the Kawaihae Industrial Center mauka of Akoni Pule Highway. To find the center, just follow the yellow signs.

“Kana‘iolowalu is a year-long campaign to reunify Native Hawaiians in the self-recognition of their unrelinquished sovereignty,” said spokesman Clyde Namu‘o. “Those Native Hawaiians who are on the list and are 18 years of age as of the date of certification will be eligible to participate in the organization of a native governing entity.”

Council meetings are hosted by the Kailapa Community Association, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Kawaihae Mauka.
