The Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) recently celebrated excellence in health care with the presentation of its 2012 awards and scholarships honoring “the heroes of health care who are passionate and fearless in the face of challenge.”

The Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) recently celebrated excellence in health care with the presentation of its 2012 awards and scholarships honoring “the heroes of health care who are passionate and fearless in the face of challenge.”

Four of this year’s group of dedicated professionals hail from the Big Island, said spokesman Adria Estribou.

Sen. Josh Green, M.D., was honored as State Senator of the Year. Green is currently an emergency room physician in Kona and chairman of the Senate Health Committee.

Arthur Sampaga Jr., RN, BSN, CCRN, received this year’s award for Professional with Heart/Acute Care. Sampaga is Cardiovascular Services supervisor and Emergency Management coordinator at Hilo Medical Center.

Sharon Swanson, R.N., was honored as the Professional with Heart/Home Care and Hospice. Swanson is a pediatric nurse with CareResource Hawaii in Kailua-Kona in both the hospital and home care settings. This May, she was selected as one of National Home Care and Hospice’s top 50 nurses in the nation.

Judy Beaver received a $500 scholarship towards her Associate Degree of Nursing at Hawaii Community College. She has worked as a home health aide for CareResource Hawaii for 11 years. More about individual awardees can be seen at HAH.org/yearofthedragon.
