Kele Kanahele of the island of Niihau will return to the Lyman Museum to teach the authentic creation of Niihau shell jewelry at four workshops this fall: Friday, Sept; 21, Saturday, Sept. 22; Friday, Nov. 30; and Saturday, Dec. 1, all from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Reservations must be made, pieces and colors specified, and the workshop fee(s) paid by Sept. 15 for the September workshops and Nov. 24 for the November/December workshops to ensure your place and the availability of shells,” said Lyman spokeswoman Christine Vana.
“On any day you may learn how to make an 18-inch necklace/lei ($205), bracelet ($85), or a pair of earrings ($65) in the pikake style, using white, yellow, or brown momi shells. Choose your color when making your reservation,” said Vana. “You may create more than one piece, as long as you sign up for specific pieces in advance.”
