The East Hawaii Cultural Center will launch the 24th Annual Trash Art Show with an opening reception and awards presentation on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded. The exhibit will be on display at the center at 141 Kalakaua St. in downtown Hilo through Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Juror Ira Ono, who founded the contest almost a quarter of a century ago, will select artwork that represents “art from trash,” and says originality, creativity and workmanship count.
“Large works are encouraged,” says Ono.
Entry dates for artwork are Friday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 961-5711 or visit www.ehcc.org.
“Now’s the time to create your trash art! It’s fun, helps the environment, it may win a prize and get exhibited,” said gallery coordinators. All entries must be created from recycled materials, discards, throwaways, etc. Artists may enter as many as three works. Large 3-D pieces can be accommodated and are encouraged.
For details, stop by EHCC to pick up the prospectus, call 961-5711 or email arts@ehcc.org, or visit www.ehcc.org.
