A new program is designed to provide Hawaii County’s SSI and SSDI beneficiaries information and instruction on how to get back to work. It is coordinated by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Workforce Development Division Big Island Workplace Connection One-Stop Center.
Counselors are available at the One-Stop Center locations to assist consumers with getting back into the work force, job training and how best to improve their efforts for self-sufficiency in the workplace.
Two orientations are scheduled next week in East Hawaii and West Hawaii:
• Monday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Hwy., in Kailua-Kona, and
• Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Workforce Development Division Big Island Workplace Connection One Stop Center at 1990 Kinoole St., Suite 102, in Hilo.
The orientations will explore work incentives available in the Ticket to Work Program established by the Social Security Administration that gives SSI and SSDI beneficiaries assistance to increase their income and to provide them with training opportunities.
Reservations are required, as seating is limited, so interested participants and direct service providers should contact Serrylee Kanaka‘ole-Wong, disability resource coordinator of the Disability Employment Initiative at the Hilo One-Stop Center, at 981-2860, ext. 231.
