Time and time again, St. Joseph senior Haley Thorsen rose up to put away kills. Try as she might, junior Karissa Komo couldn’t quite help Makua Lani keep pace.
Thorsen delivered 18 kills Tuesday night as the Cardinals coasted to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-16 victory in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II girls volleyball match at their gym.
Much like Thorsen, Komo stood out for Makua Lani, but St. Joe showed more seasoning and had better balance in evening its record at 3-3.
Seniors Nicole Smallwood, Georgia Pirie and sophomore Alison Fuata each posted five kills for St. Joe.
Komo was a one-women wrecking crew with 11 kills for Makua Lani (0-7), which is competing in BIIF volleyball for the first time. Senior Nai’a Ilagan Willard added three.
