PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — Guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton has left Pearl Harbor for a 10-month deployment to the western Pacific.
Cmdr. Scott Carroll says the 505-foot-long ship expects to conduct maritime security and ballistic missile defense operations during deployment. It can guide its vertically launched standard missiles to intercept hostile aircraft and missiles at extended ranges.
The Paul Hamilton left Pearl Harbor on Friday.
The destroyer is named after the third Secretary of the Navy who served under President James Madison from 1809 to 1813.
