Cross country student athletes from middle schools throughout North and East Hawaii will gather at the starting line Saturday for Waimea Middle School’s 5th Annual Cross Country Meet.

Cross country student athletes from middle schools throughout North and East Hawaii will gather at the starting line Saturday for Waimea Middle School’s 5th Annual Cross Country Meet.

Student runners will lap the school campus and out into what is former Parker Ranch pasture land that is now vacant school property for the meet that begins at 9 a.m. The community is invited to come cheer on the 40-50 participating student athletes. Volunteers willing to help marshal the meet are welcome. Please call Patti Cook at WMS (937-2833) if interested in helping.

The WMS cross country boys took the first place overall trophy at the recent first meet of the season hosted by Haili Christian Academy in Hilo. WMS students winning medals were: Boys, Toby Balaam, 1st for 6th grade; Shane Hunter, 3rd for 6th grade; Jonah Hurney, 2nd for 7th grade; Elijah Anakalea-Buckley, 2nd for 8th grade; and for girls, Tania duPont, 1st for 8th grade; and Savanna Rhode, 2nd place for 8th grade.
