Emily Hartong and Jane Croson both posted 14 kills and nine digs Thursday night as the No. 8 University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept Cal-Irvine in its Big West home opener.
Jade Vorster added seven kills, including two straight in Game 1 as UH scored five in a row to take a 15-11 lead, and the Rainbow Wahine were off an running for a 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 victory at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
UH (11-2, 4-0) held Irvine to only .090 hitting. Ali Longo recorded a match-high 12 digs and Kalei Adolpho hit .375 with three blocks as Hawaii hit at a .283 clip. Hartong (.355) was efficient in taking 31 swings and setter Mita Uiato compiled 82 assists. Hawaii hit .583 in the second set.
Sydney Wright had eight kills and a match-high five blocks for Anteaters (7-9, 2-1).
UH hosts Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
