In Hilo on Thursday, get firsthand reports from the recent United Nations General Assembly session in New York and the UN Human Rights Council’s final meeting of 2012.

“These international institutions have important implications for our islands regarding the important issues of sustainability, human security, peace, social justice and fundamental freedoms,” said spokesman Joshua Cooper.

“Hawaii residents attending the various United Nations meetings will share their insight into the global gatherings and share perspective on its significance to our future,” said Cooper.

Hilo residents can participate via the University of Hawaii Interactive Television System at Media Services Room 359 from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4.

The discussion is hosted by the monthly Human Rights and Sustainability Campus Community Dialogue sponsored by the United Nations Association USA Hawaii and the Hawaii Institute for Human Rights.

The dialogue will feature briefings from participants observing the United Nations meetings as well as short clips featuring world leaders delivering their addresses to the UN General Assembly and experts at the UN Social Forum focusing on people-centered development.
