Basil LeRoy Edmunds, 81, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 28 at home. Born in Garibaldi, Oreg., he was a retired Navy captain, owned and operated a commercial fishing business, served as manager of the Port of Bay City for 22 years, and was an economic development director for the state of Oregon for 12 years. He and his wife retired and moved to Kona in 1999. He was a member of the Big Island Ukulele Guild, and enjoyed wood working and building boats. Survived by wife, Sonia Edmunds of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Sheryl (John) Cain of Hemet, Calif., and Kathy Edmunds (Bowie Goodwin) of Kailua-Kona; and granddaughter Caryn Cain. Arrangements for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Cremation services by A Hui Hou Crematory & Funeral Home of West Hawaii.
Christopher Lawrence Broussard, 34, of Hilo died Sept. 26 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Lafayette, La., he was a security guard for Haka Security, a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Private services held. Additional services and burial will take place in Houston at a later date. Survived by wife, Dawn Broussard of Hilo; son, Joshua of Hilo; mother, Lillie (Louie) Sims of Houston; father, Ivory Broussard of Lafayette, La.; brothers, Adam Guillory and Kenneth Broussard. both of Houston; maternal grandmother, Mary Brown of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
