The Big Island Soccer Referee Association is recruiting officials to participate in the upcoming Big Island Interscholastic Federation season.
Mandatory signups will be held in Hilo and Kona from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. A meeting will be held at Hilo High School, Room BB202, and another will be held at Konawaena High School, Room Q202. A Waimea signup meeting will be held Oct. 30 at the Parker Ranch Broiler restaurant by Foodland from 6-8 p.m.
Referees are required to complete the National Federation of State High School Associations soccer rules examination open-book test and an availability form and bring them to the meetings.
All prospective high school refs should also bring $40 dollars for the BISRA dues.
The association will hold its annual election of officers at the meetings. Any referee who was paid for games last season is a member and can cast a vote. Nominees for president are Robert Duerr or Kyoko Heslinga. The nominee for treasurer is Micheal McCullough, and the nominee for secretary is Bob Bishoff.

Konawaena winter
sports meeting
Konawaena High School’s Winter Sports Parents Meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at the high school cafeteria.
Practice begins soon and all students interested in participating in one of the Wildcats’ winter sports need to have a parent or guardian attend this meeting.
Winter sports at Konawaena include: Boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls paddling, boys and girls wrestling, boys and girls swimming & diving.
Irie hole-in-one
Glen Irie aced the par 3, 177-yard 10th hole on Oct. 21 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. He used a 5 wood for the shot while playing with the 828 Golf Club.
Witnessing Irie’s first ace were Kenji Kawai, Jimmy Kudo, Clyde Nakasue, Larry Ahuna and James Haraguchi.
