Shut out and blown out, this was not the way the University of Hawaii was looking to go out.

Long Beach State dealt the Rainbow Wahine their worst loss of the season, 5-0 on Friday night in Southern California.

Nadia Link, Eileen Maes and Kristyn Benavidez scored in the first half, and Jessika Oseguera and Elizabeth Lyons added to the lead as the 49ers (12-6, 5-3) kept their postseason soccer hopes alive.

Hawaii (8-9-2, 3-5) was shut out for the sixth time this season. The ‘Bows need a win Sunday at Cal Irvine to avoid a fourth consecutive losing season. They’ll have to overcome their road woes to finish on a high note, however. UH has lost sixth straight and 20 of 22 overall away from the islands.

Senior goalkeeper Kanani Taaca made six saves for the Rainbow Wahine, who were outshot 16-7.
