Kenneth Yoshio Furuta, 71, of Mountain View, died Oct. 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired supervisor for the County Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Army veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and Baldwin Kumiai. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. No koden. Merrill Sadami Miura, 69, of Pahoa died Oct. 19 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired industrial arts teacher at Pahoa High School and Kalanianaole Elementary School, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Pahoa Ward). Survived by wife, June Miura of Hilo; sons, Steven Shigematsu Miura of Torrance, Calif., Taketsugu Miura of Honolulu, Alan Hisao (Marlyn Agarma) Miura of Honolulu; mother, Shizue Miura of Hilo; sisters, Leatrice (Gerald) Santo of Washington and Gladys Miura of Pahoa; brother, Sidney Miura of Pahoa; grandson, Anson Agarma-Miura of Honolulu; and numerous nephews and cousins. Patricia Ann Hill, 59, of Keaau died at the Hilo Medical Center Sept. 28. Born in Long Island, New York, she was a homemaker. Private services held. Tsugio “Peco” Shishido, 92, of Hilo, died Oct. 17 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Olaa, he was a retired house painter and member of Taishoji Soto Mission. Private services held. No koden. Primie Viernes Ribao, 66, of Hilo, died Sept. 15 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in the Philippines, she was a retired teacher for Keaau Elementary School and a member of the First Born Temple in Hilo. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at First Born Temple, Hilo, (located behind Hilo Shopping Center); Funeral Service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Gladys “Sweetie” Kaualoku Santos, 77, of Ainaloa, died Oct. 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalapana, she was a retired housekeeper for Hilo Hospital. She was a U.S. Marine Corps Korean War veteran and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 231. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; prayer service at 10 a.m.; cremation to follow. A Graveside Urn Committal Service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Rita G. Atiz, 82, of Mountain View died at Hilo Medical Center Oct. 6. Born in Pulehu, Maui, she was the owner of Atiz Nursery and the co-owner of E&R Dozer Service. She was also a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Big Island Nurseryman’s Association, Hilo Orchid Society, Big Island Ballroom Dancing Association., and the former Sampaguita Club. Friends may call at the Dodo Mortuary chapel from 5-9 p.m. Thursday; wake service at 7 p.m.. Friends may also call at the St. Joseph Catholic Church from 8:30-10 a.m. Friday; Mass at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Kaieie, Papaikou. Casual attire.
