Clarence “Pops” Akana, 72, of Waikoloa died Oct. 18 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired pipe fitter for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, a retired golf marshal for Waikoloa Golf Course, an Army veteran, was awarded the 1984 Federal Employee of the Year Award for outstanding community service by then Gov. George Ariyoshi and was recognized as a “100 Plus” blood donor. Services held. Memorial donations to North Hawaii Hospice or American Cancer Society. Survived by wife, Mildred Akana of Waikoloa; daughters, Angela (Mike) McFarland and Pamela (Tom) Garred of Panama City, Fla., Leesa (Kaala) Souza of Kailua, Oahu; sister, Haunani (Ben) Bolos; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
