Japan extended its lead at the Asia Pacific Junior Cup on Friday at the Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Kings’ Course, winning five of eight foursome matches against Hawaii to take a 91/2 to 61/2 advantage.
The tournament concludes today with 16 individual matches. The Hawaii team, which includes Waiakea senior Ciera Min, Hawaii Prep senior Andrew Paisley and Waiakea junior Andi Igawa, must win 10 of the matches to claim the cup.
On Friday, Min and Tyler Munetake scored a 2-up win over Nao Honda and Takashi Ogiso, while Igawa and Colby Takushi halved their match with Japan’s Yamato Ebina and Akiho Sato.
Paisley and Hana Furuichi, who notched a 1-up victory over Japan’s Rina Hasegawa and Yoshinari Ishizuku in best ball competion a day earlier, fell to Haruka Morita and Reo Hiruta, 3 and 2.
In other best ball matches on Thursday, Honda and Soma Kitamura beat Min and Munetake 1 up, while Sato and Koki Ishihara defeated Igawa and Bryden Salvador, 4 and 3.
