SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The FBI says a Utah man has been arrested after trying to sneak a knife on board an airplane at Salt Lake City International Airport.
The agency says 56-year-old Arthur Karl Schwedler of Erda, Utah was charged Friday with possession of a dangerous weapon while attempting to board an aircraft.
During an airport security screening on Thursday, Transportation Security Administration officers found a knife with a 3-inch blade in Schwedler’s pants pocket.
Authorities say Schwedler told agents he wanted to “be rebellious and anti-authority” and test security to see if he could get the knife onto the airplane bound for Charlotte, N.C.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah says Schwedler is being held in custody until he appears before a judge on Tuesday.
