The all-ladies event is a two-person team, modified women’s scramble using the latest November handicap. Check-in is at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $100 per person, which includes greens fee, cart, prizes and awards luncheon at the Pu‘u Anahulu Community Center immediately following the tournament.
Registration forms are available at the Big Island Country Club, located on State Highway 190 at the 20-mile marker or on the Big Island Country Club website at www.bigislandcountryclub.com. Entry deadlines is Saturday, Dec. 1. Registrations received by Nov. 23 will be entered in a special prize drawing.

At an elevation of 2,200 feet, the BICC is also among just a handful of up-country golf courses in the state and is consistently-rated as one of the top independent courses in Hawaii.

HISOA refs meeting slated
A basketball rules interpretation and mechanics meeting for East Hawaii officials and coaches will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Hoolulu Recreation Complex Conference room.
Designed for the 2012-13 Big Island Interscholastic Federation’s season, Hawaii Island Sports Officials Association Basketball Coordinator/Rules Interpreter Mason Souza will discuss the NFHS points of emphasis, rules and professionalism.
A session for West Hawaii officials and coaches will be scheduled for a date in Kailua-Kona.

Seasiders JV hoops tourney
Laupahoehoe will be hosting the 37th Annual Laupahoehoe Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament on Dec 5-7 at the Seasiders Gym.
The tournament will include an eight-team field with games at 4, 5:20, 6:40 or 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each team will play three games. There is an entrance fee of $100 per team.

Weeks sinks ace at Hilo Muni
Holly Weeks aced the par 3, 147-yard 8th hole on Oct. 29 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. He used a 4 hybrid to record his second hole-in-one within two months.

Big Dog Run/Walk is Nov. 22
The Big Island Road Runners’ inugural Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph Thanksgiving Day 5K Walk/Run will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22. The start and finish will be at the parking area of Moku Ola or Coconut Island, off Banyan Drive in Hilo.
The event is free and registration will be at the event just prior to the start. There is no cost for the event, however, participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or a monetary donation for the Salvation Amry to help needy families during the upcoming holiday season.
“On a day set aside to give thanks, the Big Island Road Runners want to bring the community out for a healthy way to start the day while acknowledging the tremendous amount of extremely important service Wayne Joseph has given to the Big Island Community,” said BIRR president Steve Pavao.
Joseph is a former Marine, a Vietnam veteran, a longtime teacher, cross country coach, executive director of the Big Island International Marathon, former Race Director of the Volcano Marathon, former president of the Big Island Road Runners, a leader in the HSTA retirees organization, former member of the County of Hawaii’s Ethics Commission, and a longtime sports writer and columnist for the Hawaii Tribune Herald.
