A farewell koto concert featuring Shiho Watanabe and her students will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Hilo Daijingu Activity Center located at 10 Anela St., on the corner of Puainako and Anela streets.

A farewell koto concert featuring Shiho Watanabe and her students will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Hilo Daijingu Activity Center located at 10 Anela St., on the corner of Puainako and Anela streets.

The concert is sponsored by Dot’s Dance Studio, and will honor Watanabe, who is currently teaching koto in Hilo and is a graduate of Gunma Prefecture’s Fine Arts College, with an associate teachers certificate from Miyagi’s Koto Music School of Japan.

Watanabe is the wife of the Rev. Daizo Watanabe of Hilo Daijingu. The couple will be returning to Japan next year.

This koto concert will also feature special guest performers from Japan, Hui O Mapuana’s Hula Nanis and the post-graduates of Dot’s Dance Studio.

“Please come and enjoy this benefit koto concert for Hilo Daijingu, which will be honoring Mrs. Shiho Watanabe for perpetuating koto music in Hilo,” said spokeswoman Diann Horita.
