Arc of Hilo gets $2,000 grant
The Arc of Hilo is the recipient of a $2,000 grant from the Fredrick Yokoyama Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation in support of “Teens in Transition,” a program that focuses on high school teens with special needs.
This program gives students the opportunity to overcome personal barriers to employment and self-sufficiency. Participants are mentored and guided in their learning/work stages as they transition into the workforce. The funds will go to support students in their initial employment training phase.
With more than 3,600 special needs students reported in 2011, this teen initiative is critical to addressing the needs of island youth.
