Trevor Tanaka scored 12 points while Kenan Gaspar and Jonah Bredeson added 11 apiece as Konawaena defeated Australia’s Tiger Sharks B 59-44 at the World Youth Basketball Tournament Tuesday at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.
The Wildcats (10-2), who lost to Tiger Sharks A earlier in the day, finished with a 3-1 record at the WYBT, which continues through Friday.
Joshua Dow scored 11 points, and Ned Chalmers followed with 10 for the Melbourne-based Tiger Sharks, who brought three teams to the five-day tournament in Kailua-Kona — the last stop of a four-tournament tour in the United States. The Sharks also played in Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Maria, Calif.
Sedale Threatt, who played for five NBA teams over an 18-year career, and his son, former Lehigh quarterback Sedale Threatt Jr., head the Tiger Sharks program. The elder Threatt enjoyed his best NBA seasons while playing with the L.A. Lakers in the 1990s.
