Nakaiya Kerr netted his fourth straight hat trick and the undefeated Christian Liberty boys soccer team tuned up for its first big test of the season with another easy victory

Keenan Freitas also scored three goals Wednesday to power the Canefire past Ka’u 9-0 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II match in Keaau.

Kerr, a junior forward, has scored a league-high 15 goals for the Canefire, who have outscored their opponents by a combined 36-1 en route to a 5-0 start. They moved into a three-way tie with Honokaa and Hawaii Prep atop Division II.

The road is about to get tougher, however. Christian Liberty will face its first opponent with a winning record when it visits defending Division I champion Kealakehe (5-0) at 6 p.m. Friday.

Like Kerr, junior forward Louis Moylan also has scored in every match this season, adding his sixth and seventh goals against the Trojans (2-4). Sophomore midfielder Sequoya Kerr scored his fourth. Freitas, a senior fullback, has five goals.

Senior goalkeeper Keanu Bergfeld earned the shutout.

Waiakea 9, Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science 0: Coleman Chaves’ four goals sparked the Warriors to their first victory of the season.

Hajime Hayano scored twice and Matt Otani, Miles Marshall and Quinton Coltes added a goal apiece for Waiakea (1-6) in match played at St. Joseph High School.

Hayano and Marshall are the only returning starters for a Waiakea program coming off consecutive runner-up finishes in Division I.

Coach David Urakami said the growing pains have been evident

“Hopefully, we’ll just start learning,” he said.

The lineup for Na Naia (0-7) featured as many as four girls.

Ka’u 2, Christian Liberty 1: Kawai Houvener and Kaila Olson scored as the visiting Trojans earned their first win, improving to 1-4.

Taylor Feato found the back of the net for the Canefire (0-6).
