Christmas came early at Hilo High School in the form of more than 100 computers and printers — loaded on a total of 10 pallets — from the Department of Defense, through its Computers in the Schools program.
Getting the computers to the school, however, was quite a feat, as the equipment could only be released in Honolulu.
Xpress Trucking Inc. of Honolulu picked up the computers from the Tripler Army Base and delivered them to the port in Honolulu. From there, Young Brothers transported the computers from Honolulu to Hilo. Conen’s Freight Transport of Hilo picked up the computers from Young Brothers and delivered the goods to Hilo High.
All of this work was done at no cost, reported student Tifaine Crivello, who chronicled the big event for the school.
“By pulling together, the elves demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas: It is not about receiving, it is about giving,” said Crivello. “Hilo High is deeply grateful to all of Santa’s helpers with this Christmas delivery. These computers will enhance education at Hilo High School and will be constant reminders of the Christmas spirit.”
