Melvin Naoya Kaneshiro, 71, of Hilo died Dec. 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kukuihaele, he was a self-employed certified public accountant and member of Hui Okinawa, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Association of Public Accountants and East Hawaii Kiwanis Club. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Kazuko Kaneshiro of Hilo; son, Neil (Isabella) Kaneshiro of Honolulu; daughter, Julienne Kaneshiro of Hilo; brother, Wayne (Mildred) Kaneshiro of Hilo; sisters, Myrna (Kenneth) Nishihara and Sandra (Wayne) Toma of Kaneohe, Aileen Kaneshiro and June Bratton of Hilo, Daryl (Dan) Weaver of San Francisco, Arlene (Dennis) Okamura of Honolulu; two grandchildren; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Alberta Chartier Mueller Gillette Liljestrand, 102, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 4 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Algonac, Mich., she was an artist, teacher, community volunteer and world traveler. Services held. Survived by daughter, Cynthia Gillette-Wenner of Volcano; son, Gregory (Nancy) Gillette; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.
