The Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Department’s online camping permit service will be unavailable Saturday and Sunday as the website is upgraded.
The upgrade will allow users to set up accounts to more easily make and cancel reservations and seek refunds, said department spokesman Jason Armstrong.
The website will also be updated to post closure notices, marine warnings and other updates.
Armstrong said permit holders will be required to provide the names of everyone camping at their site.
Currently, only the permit holder is required to provide their name.
Armstrong said that will help increase park security.
Camping permits are required at Isaac Hale, Kapa`a, Kolekole, Mahukona, Punalu`u, Spencer, Laupahoehoe, Miloli`i, and Whittington beach parks.
Permits received online cost $6 for each adult, $2.25 for children between ages 13 and 17, and $1 for children under 12.
