The University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball program has been selected as Special Olympics East Hawaii’s outstanding organization of the year.

“The program has been involved for the past 36 years due to head coach Joey Estrella’s commitment to giving back to the community,” area director Carey Uchida said.

Every year, the program has helped stage a bowling tournament at Hilo Lanes, as well as conducting clinics with athletes each year for the past three years.
