Senior Kekoa Phenicie tallied two goals, and Justin Warren added one as Honokaa defeated Keaau 3-0 Saturday in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys soccer match.
The Dragons’ home win put Honokaa (7-0) in sole possession of first place atop the BIIF Division II standings.
Phenicie gave his team the lead for good in the second minute, running onto a throughball from senior Clayton Robinson and beating Keaau’s goalkeeper to the ball before directing it into the net.
Robinson also played a role in the Dragons’ second goal, drilling a free kick from 35 yards out that bounced to junior Justin Warren, who turned the rebound into a goal and a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.
Warren assisted on Phenicie’s second goal in the 52nd minute.
Senior Cassidy Dixon shut out the Cougars (1-4-2).
Waiakea 3, Kohala 0: Coleman Chaves scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in Kapaau as the Warriors improved to 2-7.
Hajime Hayano added his team-high seventh goal, while goalkeepers Chris Wung and Manuia Sevao combined to blank the Cowboys (0-8).

Honokaa 5, Keaau 0: Senior Kelly Greenwell notched a hat trick, giving her nine goals for the season as host Honokaa improved to 5-1.
Senior Monica Carlos, who has scored in each of the Dragons’ six matches, tacked on her team-high 10th goal while Daisha Acorda added her sixth.
Junior Hailey Paglinawan and senior Kaiu Freitas-Lau combined to shut out the Cougars (2-4) in goal.
Waiakea 9, Kohala 0: Sabrina Scott collected her fifth and sixth goals of the season, and Danielle Walko-Siua also scored twice in Kapaau for the Warriors.
Cheylee Octavio tacked on her team-high seventh goal, while Krystina Carvallo, Stacia Deponte, Starcia Deponte and Nyla Orevillo also found the back of the net for Waiakea (4-5).
Jordan Melchor blanked the Cowgirls (0-7) in goal.
