Born in Honomu, he was a retired regional manager with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), a former professional baseball player in Japan with the Daimai Orions and the Kintetsu Buffaloes, and former pitching coach for the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans baseball team.
