Volcano artist Glenn Yamanoha will teach a class on Thursday evenings at the University of Hawaii Center-West Hawaii in Kealakekua. “Foundation Studio: 2D Design” is an exploration of basic two-dimensional designs, concepts, elements and principles of organization.
Yamanoha will emphasize problem solving, conceptual thinking and developing one’s “visual vocabulary.” Class starts Thursday, Jan. 10, and will run until May 9. It is open to the public as a credit or noncredit course. Register at the Office of Continuing Education and Training at 934-2516.
Yamanoha is an accomplished painter and printmaker who was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. He graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle Art Institute and Kyoto University of Arts. He was awarded a Monbusho Grant from the Japanese government and an artists’ fellowship from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. He exhibits regularly in Hawaii, including at the Dovetail Gallery in Holualoa, on the mainland and in Japan. His paintings are part of a collection at the Hawaii State Art Museum.
